General Questions

Any healthy individual between 18 and 60 years of age, weighing at least 45 kg, and having a hemoglobin level above 12.5% can donate blood. Active medical checkups for blood pressure, pulse, and weight are conducted at our centre before donation.

Healthy male donors can safely donate blood every 3 months (90 days). Female donors can donate blood every 4 months (120 days). This interval allows your body's red blood cell count to return to normal levels.

Yes, blood donation is extremely safe. We use high-quality, sterile, brand-new disposable kits and needles for every single donor. Once used, the kit is immediately discarded. There is zero risk of contracting any transmissible disease or infection from donating blood.

The actual blood withdrawal takes only 8 to 10 minutes. However, the entire process—including filling out the donor registration form, a brief medical check-up, post-donation rest, and refreshments—takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Drink plenty of water or juice to stay hydrated. Eat a light meal or snack before your donation (avoid donating on an empty stomach). Get a good night's sleep of at least 6-8 hours and avoid alcohol consumption for 24 hours prior to donation.

To request blood components, please bring a completed and signed Blood Requisition Form filled by the treating medical officer at your hospital/clinic/nursing home along with a labeled patient sample provided by the hospital. This allows our technicians to perform proper blood grouping and cross-matching to ensure patient compatibility.

We are a non-profit organization. We charge a basic service charge for blood units to cover testing, screening, equipment, and laboratory maintenance, in accordance with national guidelines. However, pediatric Thalassemia Major patients receive blood transfusions completely free of cost.

At the Rotary Sumitra Gehlot Thalassemia Day Care Centre, registered children receive blood transfusions entirely free of charge. This includes the blood unit, pediatric filters (leukodepleted), nursing care, and outpatient facilities in an infection-free, pediatric-friendly ward.
